POWER COGENERATION
Hayden teams with Peterson Power to design and supply engine/generator sets for California agricultural processing facility
Challenges
- Design a cooling system for three Caterpillar CG170-12 engine/generator sets in Peterson-provided enclosures with a combined output of 3600 kWe of electrical energy and 12 MMBtu/hour of thermal energy
- Coolers had to be specifically designed to meet high ambient site conditions and specific physical envelope constraints
Solution
- Hayden’s application engineers worked closely with Peterson’s engineers and the enclosure builder to develop a unique solution to meet the customer’s requirements
- Each engine/generator set utilizes two Hayden coolers
- One cooler operates intermittently as a heat dump when the facility cannot take all the thermal energy produced
- The other cooler operates continuously, supporting the engine’s after-cooler system
